On Saturday, April 24, the American Legion in Smethport conducted a ceremony to rename the bridge on Route 6 over Potato Creek to POW / MIA Memorial Bridge to honor the more than 1,100 veterans from Pennsylvania and 93,000 nationwide who are listed as prisoners of war or missing in action. Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) was the featured speaker. In attendance were two former POWs from the area: Robert Cochran and William Engelhart.
