Smethport Hosts Blood Drive to Show It Is a Community that Cares

Red CrossResidents of Smethport are partnering with the American Red Cross for a “Communities That Care” blood drive on Monday, August 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Smethport Fire Hall at 109 South Nelson Street.

A “Communities That Care” blood drive is a Red Cross initiative to engage local citizens and boost regional blood supplies by enlisting community support.

While thousands of people answered the call for blood and platelet donations issued by the Red Cross earlier this summer, an urgent need remains for platelets and types O negative, A negative and B negative blood. The summer months can be especially difficult to collect enough blood and platelet donations to keep pace with patient needs.

The Red Cross is urging all eligible donors to help keep the blood supply strong this summer by making an appointment to donate blood today. All presenting donors at this blood drive will receive a free t-shirt and be invited to participate in our free hotdog cookout. Additionally, all presenting donors during the month of August will be entered to win one of 12 HD tablets courtesy of Best Buy.*

Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org.
