At the 9th annual business dinner of the Smethport Area Chamber of Commerce held at the American Legion, the dental practice of Dr. James B. Kane was honored as Business of the Year 2010.

Dr. Kane started practicing dentistry in Johnsonburg in 1978, the same year he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He relocated to Smethport in September 1984 and has been at his present location at 8 E. Willow Street since 1991.  

Dr. Kane’s practice currently has five employees. He credits them as the real reason they are “Business of the Year”.

Jackie Taylor, proprietor of The Country Porch and the recipient of last year’s award, said of Dr. Kane: “He has had a successful business and practice for over three decades. He believes in giving back to the community. Countless hours have been spent coaching young ladies in softball at our high school. And to his credit, the softball program in Smethport has been very successful for many years.”

Dr. Kane had his priorities right on the night of the Chamber event. Instead of enjoying a leisurely dinner among friends and neighbors, he was out on the softball field making a difference in the lives of students.
