Smethport’s first boys PIAA Class A basketball playoff victory couldn’t have come at a better time.

Disappointed with their fourth place finish in the District 9 playoffs, the Hubbers put it all together Friday night giving Bishop Guilfoyle a taste of its own medicine in rolling to a 63-56 victory over the Marauders at Altoona High School.

“From what I hear, tonight is the first state playoff win ever for a Smethport boys basketball team,” said Dan Zeigler, Hubbers head coach. “This is a big deal for the guys. We set a lot of precedents this whole year and this is just another one for us. It’s something that these boys will be really proud of.” Read more »
