WHEREAS, prayer has long been a positive force that unites our citizens of Smethport and serves as a source of inspiration and hope to countless individuals; and

WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer will be observed on Thursday, May 5, 2011 with the theme “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” based on Psalm 91:2

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to observe a Day of Prayer in Smethport, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of America in such a time as this, and that all citizens may acknowledge our blessings, express gratitude, and recognize the continuing need for strong positive values to guide our community, state and nation,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross Porter, Mayor of the Borough of Smethport, Pennsylvania, do hereby designate May 5, 2011 as
