Seven Year Smethport Match: Big Debbie Sharro and Little Johnathan Doheny

Smethport Web — by Annie Wolfe

Little Johnathan Doheny was just eight years old when he was matched with his Big Sister Debbie Sharro through The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. The pair celebrated their seven-year anniversary on May 15, 2016.

In addition to the support Johnathan gets from his family, Debbie’s influence as a mentor has helped to improve Johnathan’s academic success, self esteem, interest in clubs and activities, and peer and adult relationships.

Debbie and Johnathan enjoy going to the movies, hiking at Rimrock, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and swimming. Debbie supports Johnathan by helping him with his homework, cheering him on at his Special Olympics events, and talking with him about job or career goals.
