Smethport Web — By Les Jordan, Jr.
Members of the Potato Creek Trail Association placed trail markers on the Wolfinger Trail System on “town hill” north of Smethport on Saturday, June 13.
Material for the signs was purchased by individual members of the association and local businesses in the Smethport area. Special thanks go to the Dart family who donated most of the sign posts and the family’s tractor complete with post-hole digger along with much needed abor from family members.
The trail markers are made of a composite material that will stand the effects of weather for a long time.
The Wolfinger Trail system is located north of the borough on what is known by locals as “town hill.” The system has several connecting trails at the summit of the hill directly north of town. The system is part of the developing trail system extending out of Smethport that is being developed by the Potato Creek Trail Association.
Other trails include the Goosechaser Trail in Hamlin Lake Park and the Shawmut Trail running along Marvin Creek from near Chet Burt Field toward the 911 Center.
