The state grant we applied for from Pennsylvania Wilds was approved for the amount of $ 8,800.00 for phase I to partially resurface and expand our Shawmut trail. We are planning on purchasing gravel, interpretive signage and turn style gates. The grant will be matched with labor. Eventually this trail will connect to Kinzua Bridge and Trail Central.
Pennsylvania Wilds also awarded a design grant to the Borough. Among other things lighting will be installed on the bridge by the county home.
If we get the appropriate easements we would like to add a loop from our trail head by the Dollar Store through “dog town” and back.
When Steve Brougham hid caches on the Wolfinger Trail System he noticed that the Mountain Top Ridge Trail needs to be cleared from brush.
Julie Taylor’s daughter wants to make an orienteering course on town hill using compasses. This is similar to geocaching.
Jim Wallace suggested writing Christmas Cards to all land owners as a sign of our appreciation. Ross will order the cards and Claudia and Corky will compile a list of names and addresses.
We will hold an introductory geocaching event on 30 October at 1:30 on an intermediate trail of the Wolfinger Trail System. We will meet at the east end of Green Street.
Our next meeting will be on November 17, 2011 at 7 pm at Hamlin Memorial Library.
