Potato Creek Trail Association

Meeting Minutes for September 23, 2009

Seven members attended the September meeting.

Claudia Caminite brought a sample box that we can use at trailheads and access points for maps and brochures. They are easy to install and will a suitable addition to the kiosks. We need information and maps at all access points not just the major trailheads.

We discussed what things should go on the kiosks, which should include a larger map, PCTA information and contacts, local points of interest, emergency information, reminder of the non-motorized status of the trails, etc. We will get piano hinges to attach the Plexiglas covers to the kiosks.

We discussed numerous ideas regarding the PCTA logo.

Hiking staffs with medallions may be a good fund raiser that we could do annually, may with a different medallion design each year. We are looking at local sources for these items.

The trail signs are doing well, but the porcupines are eating some of them. We discussed some damage control ideas, and will check with the Allegheny National Forest trail maintenance crew for suggestions.

We need a display of the trails and maps for the equestrian users to post in the horse barn.

Lastly, we need someone who can be in charge of membership; coordinating sending out annual notices, providing membership cards and keeping track of members. Currently our memberships are overdue as of July, although many of the regular meeting attendees have renewed their memberships.

The next meeting of the association will be the third Wednesday of October, the 21st, at 6:30 PM at the senior center.
