The Hamlin Memorial Library is closing out the year with a record number of patrons and visitors using the facility, a level not experienced since the opening at its present location in 1990.

The library has already cut as much as it can to save money, but still needs your financial support as it continues to grapple with the long-term effects of the economic downturn with a “bare-bones” budget.    Read more

Colonial Radio Group Celebrates New HQ in Olean

Smethport media moguls Jeff and Christy Andrulonis of Colonial Radio Group celebrated the official opening of their gleaming headquarters at One Bluebird Square in Olean, New York, Thursday evening.

The gala event featured the dazzling culinary talents of local chef Dan MacDonald from Bread Stix Café on 833 E. State Street. Dan served up a cornucopia of tasty treats that rekindled the appetite with every bite. All this was topped off with pumpkin beer and trendy wines.   Read more

St. Luke’s Arts & Crafts Fair – Colorful and Zesty!

On Friday evening and all day Saturday, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church hosted a two-day Fall Festival Arts & Crafts Fair, featuring the works of 22 crafts people from the Smethport-Bradford area and beyond.

The admission-free show included lunch and refreshments, plus three floors of vendor offerings that included floral displays, artwork, jewelry, photographs, and handmade quilts and all kinds of apparel.   Read more

As previously reported, the July-August 2010 issue of Rural Telecom magazine featured the insights of former Smethport Chamber president Wayne Pearson on the question of, “Can Broadband Save Rural America?”

Saturday Evening’s mcART Nite Celebrated Local Talent

The McKean County Court House in Smethport, Pennsylvania hosted the local art community at mcART Nite on Saturday evening. Artists and crafts people displayed their creations, which included paintings, drawings, carvings, weavings, writings, and photos. The evening included the ever-popular auction of artworks and other donated items.

The annual gala event is sponsored by the McKean County Historical Society. This year the event was supported by Northwest Savings Bank and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment of the Arts, a federal agency.   Read more

Smethport Bike Race Raises over $6000 for Smethport Volunteer Fire Department Fire Police

The record shattering 2010 Wheel Around the Hub Cycling Race held in Smethport September 18th was a giant community effort involving dozens of volunteers and numerous local and regional businesses, industries and individuals.

The race was organized by the Wheel Race Committee, a special committee of the Smethport Fire Department as a special fund raiser for the Smethport Fire Police, a division of the fire department. Over $6000 was raised for the volunteer Fire Police to purchase new digital radios and equipment.   Read more
