Library Begins Recycling Program to Raise Funds

Hamlin Memorial Library is conducting a recycling fundraiser that will also protect the environment. There’s nothing to buy. Simply donate your used consumer electronics and unwanted, broken or mismatched jewelry. Your used item(s) may be tax deductible.
All donated items will be sold for recycling in accordance with EPA regulations. 100% of the proceeds will help pay for the library’s new addition plus other library projects.

Hamlin Memorial Library Dinner & Auction a Huge Success

The 23rd Annual Hamlin Library Dinner & Auction was held Saturday evening at the Smethport Fire Hall, drawing 115 attendees who enjoyed drinks and hors d’oeuvres amid 200-plus items on display for auction or raffle. The social hour was followed by a lavish buffet dinner created by local master chefs Rose Campbell and Phyllis Russell.
The event helps pay for library operating expenses, ensuring continued services that are vital to the community. In addition to Smethport, the library’s service area includes Norwich, Keating, and Sergeant Township with a population of over 5,500. Read more
Local Legion Member to Represent U.S. in Australian Sports Event

Trista Brooke Byers of Statesville, North Carolina has been selected to represent the United States in the 22nd annual Down Under Sports Tournaments to be held in Australia this July. Currently a junior at West Iredell High School, Trista holds the title in cross country running for her school.
Thanks to her great grandmother Helen A. Cole of Smethport, 16-year old Trista has been a member of Bucktail Unit #138, American Legion Auxiliary, for her entire life. She is the granddaughter of Richard and Sandra Towner, former residents of Smethport and graduates of Smethport High School. Trista’s parents are Scott and Tracie Byers. Sandra and Tracie are also life long members of Unit #138. Read more
CCMH Announces Clinical Affiliation with Hamot

Charles Cole Memorial Hospital announced its official clinical affiliation with Hamot Medical Center which will enhance local healthcare in the region, including Smethport.
The partnership will allow expanded opportunities for Charles Cole such as trauma/emergency services, regional transportation, homecare/durable medical equipment, after hours pharmacy coverage, education and peer relationships, professional recruitment/retention, and medical office joint ventures. Patients will retain choice for tertiary care and local control of CCMH will not be affected. Read more
