Fog Reveals Different Side of Hamlin Lake Park

Fog rolled into Smethport on Saturday, as it did through much of the region. Mild, moist air clung over Hamlin Lake until mid-afternoon, cloaking the park in a white cloud that allowed only the barest glimpse of features taken for granted on a clear day. Within the misty shroud, time seemed to stand still. The sound of rushing water, muted. Befuddled geese and ducks on the water’s edge had not much to say. Enjoy the view.
Timber Ghost Taxidermy Draws Hunters Throughout Region

When two Smethport High School buddies pursued their interest in taxidermy years ago they dreamed of one day opening their own business. Three months ago, Bryan Burdick (class of 2001) and Sergio Herrera (class of 2002) finally opened the doors to their joint venture, Timber Ghost Taxidermy, on Route 59 across from the Smethport Country Club.

To polish their skills and gain a solid foundation to start their own business, the two entrepreneurs attended the Pennsylvania Institute of Taxidermy in Ebensburg where they completed 920 hours of training over 30 weeks. Read more
Dr. Douglas Bowman Honored by Community

To mark the passing of Dr. Douglas Bowman during Thanksgiving week, the Potato Creek Trail Association will do an annual tribute walk and name a section of the Shawmut Trail in his honor.
Last summer, Dr. Bowman led the 7th Annual “Walk with Doc” with members of Smethport’s newly formed Potato Creek Trail Association.
Dr. Bowman served Smethport for 29 years, from 1979-2008. A former high school teacher in Chestertown, Maryland, Dr. Bowman also served in the U.S. Public Health Service Corps. He was school physician for the Smethport Area School District from 1985 to 2003. Read more
