Library Raises $16,000 at Annual Auction
March 20, 2008
The Hamlin Memorial Library raised $16,000 at the 21st annual dinner and auction held at the Smethport Firehouse on March 8. The money will be used for operating expenses. A separate event will raise funds for the library’s planned $700,000 expansion, of which $300,000 comes from grants. When completed, the project will double the size of the current building. A “Shovel Ceremony” is scheduled for June 25th at 5:00 pm, with the architect, contractor, Borough officials and library staff attending.

Smethport is adjacent to 2 million acres of public land that is home to the largest elk herd in the eastern U.S., pockets of white-tailed deer, 15,000 black bear, as well as an abundance of turkeys, pheasants, grouse, waterfowl and other small game. Come and enjoy hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ATVing, horseback riding, hunting, fishing and more.
